Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives. Generally works under close supervision or within

well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks.

Specific Job Summary

The Staff Accountant, Development F&A supports the period close process as well as prepares and interprets results for business operations during the period, quarter, and year end close process; coordinates and consolidates financial data needed for use in these processes. The primary responsibility of this position is to process project related contracts, contractor/consultant pay requests, accounts payable, maintain and verify the accuracy of data in the Job Cost system, and provide accounting support. Partner with department managers to provide final decision and guidance on account adjustments.

  • Performs the following types of basic tasks: analysis, auditing, budgeting, forecasting, programming, research, report generation, and software integration.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Capture and monitor commitments on timely basis and perform initial review of contracts with respect to project ID, budget and forecast.
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the job cost system and contract system to process contracts, payments, and utilize the system to maximize the usefulness of management reporting.
  • Receives and audits invoices submitted for payment. Maintains and improves the process to follow up on payments. Ensures all proper back up and approvals have been provided in accordance with company policies.
  • Effective communication with leadership on resolution and escalated concerns
  • Reviews financial data to ensure it is in compliance with MVW's policies and procedures.
  • Completes period end closing process, including journal entries, financial statement activity and reporting for all appropriate departments.
  • Performs reconciliations, journal entries, and related research.
  • Ensures necessary adjusting journal entries are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for MIP-66 account reconciliations.
  • Verify the accuracy of data in the Job Cost System by balancing with the General Ledger, reconcile discrepancies by researching sometimes complex transactions. Prepare, enter and verify correcting entries.
  • Responsibilities include providing ad hoc reports for management.
  • Assists with preparation of audit work papers.
  • Performs special projects as required.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Usually a professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Resources). College degree and/or related experience typically required.

Specific Candidate Profile



 

  • Four year bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of real estate development or construction industry.
  • Intermediate proficiency in PC based applications including Excel, MS Access and MS Word.
  • PeopleSoft experience preferred.
  • Proven analytical skills including the ability to reconcile accounts and explain variances.
  • Detail oriented with strong work organization skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and spoken word.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
