Position Summary

As a member of the Global Data Insights team supporting digital growth for the Marriott Vacations Worldwide brand, this individual will be responsible for developing statistical models and the application of statistical analysis to a wide variety of online and offline data.

Specific Job Summary (describe the nature and purpose of the position)

  • Support the development of predictive and prescriptive models for online and offline marketing.
  • Provide a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns to help leaders understand the most cost-efficient ways to market.
  • Work with outside data science providers and manage the appropriate tools needed.
  • Track and manage the development of models throughout their lifecycle using appropriate agile methodology.
  • Work with senior leaders to capture requirements and uncover any data science needs that may support key strategic initiatives.
  • Evangelize the use of data science within the organization and recommend new ways to apply data science across various functions.
  • Support a variety of A/B testing and provide recommendations on the design of experiments.
  • Provide regular reporting on the effectiveness of models and forecasts.
  • The position will also be responsible for managing processes such as:
    • ensuring the accurate delivery of analytics and measurement.
    • maintaining predictive models and updating them regularly.
    • Working directly with data architects, engineers, and developers to integrate and automate the models.
    • balancing the interests of own group with the interests of the organization.
    • working with others to identify and remove barriers to success.
  • Readily critiques own behavior to acknowledge mistakes and improve future performance and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

Specific Expected Contributions (including duties and responsibilities)

  • The individual assuming this role will need to work with a variety of teams including developers, project leaders, and product owners to understand and define analytic and data science requirements within an agile environment.

Candidate Profile

Requires significant understanding of statistical methods, including model development, supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, and testing methodologies.  Must demonstrate a strong quantitative aptitude for data, as well as a passion for explaining technical issues to non-technical audiences.  Must be comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment.  Candidate must be collaborative while also being a self-motivated, creative problem solver.  The person filling this role must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form, the value delivered to the organization through data science.

Specific Candidate Profile (the education, experience, skills and attributes that are important for this position)

Minimum 4+ years’ experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, or related field.  Must have experience developing models and have some level of team or project supervisory experience.

Minimum 4-year degree in statistics, analytics, mathematics, or related field quantitative field preferred.  Graduate degree (decision science, mathematics, statistics, etc.) or quantitative field preferred.  An MBA will also be considered in lieu of an advanced degree in a quantitative field.

Experience with marketing attribution modeling and measurement preferred.

Experience using natural language processing methods to understand audience sentiment preferred.

Must be able to communicate insights clearly to peers and leaders.  This includes strong written and verbal communication skills.

Understanding of open-source statistical platforms (Python, R) is a must.  Experience with visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik etc. strongly preferred.

Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Must be a strong collaborator, but also a motivated self-starter as an individual contributor.

Experience in the hospitality or timeshare industry a plus.
