Position Summary 

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and/or department business objectives. Generally works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision making process.

Specific Job Summary 

The Network Architect is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting LAN, WAN and Load Balancer infrastructures. Provide high-level of technical support for voice and data network systems, create network documentation, maintain hardware and software standards. The Network Architect must be well versed in advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices, and network management systems. The Architect must be comfortable working under time-sensitive deadlines and collaborating with large groups on distributed projects. Some travel will be required for network maintenance or installation of sites. This position requires the Architect to be able to work with little to no technical direction, be able to manage complex projects and timelines, schedule and manage project workloads, and provide technical direction and guidance to members of the operations team

  • Performs more complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and/or projects. Often manages small projects, business processes or parts of larger ones.

  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by:

 - identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes. 

- providing training and technical guidance to less senior staff, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for problem resolution. 

- participating in setting department operating plans. 

- recognizing and celebrating team successes. 

- achieving results against budget within scope of responsibility. 

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

Specific Expected Contributions 

  • Duties involve analyzing data captured from network monitoring systems in order to produce useful analytics that can be used to uncover errors or inefficiencies in design.
  • Manages and coordinates with automation team to maintain and provide design guidance on network automation tasks.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a team and be able to follow processes and procedures. Experience working in a change controlled highly available environment.
  • Flexibility with some light travel as needed.
  • Off hours support will be required.
  • Documents network designs and device configurations.
  • Provides technical guidance to junior members of the team including direct training and the production of documents for internal training.
  • Designs complex network changes and put together detailed equipment lists and requirements for implementations. Develop budgetary costs for implementations.
  • Coordinates with internal and external resources to complete implementations and troubleshoot issues.
  • Recommends changes to the environment that improve efficiency, stability, and security of existing networks.
  • Be the final technical escalation point for issues identified by other team members and work all issues to resolution.
  • On Call is required and is scheduled in rotation with other engineers. On Call Last from Friday to Friday and the engineer is expected to be available 24/7. 


Candidate Profile 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows: 

Generally a professional position with specific knowledge in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology). College degree and/or relevant experience typically required. 

Specific Candidate Profile  

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 5+ years of experience in Networking.
  • Industry certifications preferred: CCNA, JNCA, JNCP, CCNP. 

Experience 

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN communications

- Ethernet Switching (Spanning Tree) 

- Redundancy Protocols (HSRP VRRP) 

- Understand and analyze packet captures of traffic (HTTP FTP...) 

- Routing protocols such as BGP, RIP, EIGRP, ISIS, and OSPF. 

- Candidate must have a strong understanding and practical experience with technologies like MPLS, VPLS, MLA VPNs and Traffic Engineering. 

  • In-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware 

- Ethernet switches; Juniper, Cisco 

- Routers; Juniper, Cisco 

- Firewalls; Juniper, Netscreen, Checkpoint 

- Load Balancers (F5 LTM and GTM products preferred) 

Preferred: 

  • Experience with the Junos Network Operating System.
  • List of Equipment and protocols that should be familiar:

- Hardware: 

- Cisco routers (72xx, 76XX) edge routers (3900/2900/4300) 

- Juniper MX series Ethernet routers 

- Juniper firewalls (SRX branch/SRX datacenter) 

- Netscreen firewalls (SSG / ISG) 

- Cisco switches (6500/3750/3560/3850/ Nexus) 

- Juniper switches (EX/4200's/8200/9200/QFX) 

- Checkpoint Firewalls 

- Protocols: 

- Routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF) 

- MPLS technologies (LDP RSVP-TE, VPLS) 

- Redundancy protocols (VRRP HSRP) 

- Spanning-tree (MST PVST Rapid) 

- SDN Technologies: OpenFlow, VXVLAN, NVGRE, and other OTV technologies, contrail and NSX SDN controller platforms. 

  • Experience with Monitoring Tools: 

- CA - Spectrum 

- SolarWinds/Orion 

- Wireshark -- able to capture and read packet captures 

  • Scripting:

- Juniper SLAX, F5/Cisco TCL 

- Unix BASH 

- Python 

- General scripting language Python or JavaScript. 

  • Familiarity with Information Security tools/products: 

- Internet Proxies 

- IDS/IDP 

- Web Application Firewalls (WAF's) 

- Network Access Control (NAC's) 

Skills/Attributes 

  • Must be able to lift to 50lbs (hardware/equipment) as needed.
