Position Summary  

As a member of the professional staff, contributes specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support team and department business objectives. Generally works under limited supervision, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision making process.  

Specific Job Summary  

The F5 Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of load balancing services across the enterprise. The engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of the load balancing equipment, as well as working with the QA and development teams throughout the development lifecycle to ensure tight integration of the load balancer and applications and a smooth rollout of software into production. The engineer should be comfortable working with large teams and leading troubleshooting and support calls. The engineer should also be familiar with common web protocols and certificate PKI infrastructure. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for maintaining and renewing all certificate requests in the environment.  



Expected Contributions 

  • Performs more complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and projects. Often manages small projects, business processes, or parts of larger ones.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with limited to moderate risk.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department, and business results. May direct work of non-management staff.
  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by: 

- Identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes. 

- Providing training and technical guidance to less senior staff, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for problem resolution. 

- Participating in setting department operating plans. 

- Recognizing and celebrating team successes. 

- Achieving results against budget within the scope of responsibility. 

  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate. 

Specific Expected Contributions 

  • Maintenance of the F5 infrastructure.
  • Works with multiple teams such as the QA, Development, Middleware, and Web Admin teams.
  • Flexibility with some light travel as needed.
  • Off hours support will be required.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete implementations and troubleshoot issues.
  • Recommends changes to the environment that improve efficiency, stability, and security of existing networks.
  • Works all issues to resolution.
  • On Call is required and is scheduled in rotation with other engineers. On Call Last from Friday to Friday and the engineer is expected to be available 24/7. 


Candidate Profile 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows: 

Generally, a professional position with specific knowledge in a discipline (e.g., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology). College degree and relevant experience typically required.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 5+ years of experience in Networking. 

Experience 

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of Web Protocols: 

- HTTP/HTTPS 

- FTP/SMTP 

- Javascript and redirection technologies 

- Knowledge of F5 Hardware 

- Knowledge of Bigip software 

- Knowledge of load balancing principles, VIPS, Pools, and Nodes. 

- Knowledge of iRules and other advanced load balancing topics. 

  • Programming knowledge: 

- Basic understanding of Java application infrastructure (Mule/JBoss) 

- Understanding of proxy services and setup (Apache, Squid, Nginx) 

- Understanding of Irule scripting API and TCL language 

- Understanding of API's, Gateways, and micro-services architectures 

- Deep Understanding of PKI and certificate infrastructure 

Skills/Attributes 

  • Must be able to lift to 50lbs (hardware/equipment) as needed.
